Dharma Maharjan and Kalpana Maharjan have won the Subhakamana race.
Co-organised by the Baikuntha Manandhar Sports Nepal and the Prayas Manch Nepal, the five-kilometre race was organised on the eve of a solo musical show of former athlete and singer Buddha Bir Lama.
In men’s category, Dharma finished the race in 18m 48s leaving behind Bhim Bahadur Gurung and Rajesh Maharjan who finished second and third respectively.
Similarly, Kalpana completed the race in 28m 40s. Yangdi Lama Sherpa and Sita Rimal finished second and third respectively.
A total of 67 athletes participated in the race. The race started from the premises of the National Sports Council at Tripureshwar and went through various parts of the Kathmandu Valley before concluding at Tripureshwar. The slogan for the race was ‘race for health and nation’.
The Subhakamana race is organised on the eve of the Buddha Bir Lama memorial musical concert every year. The 12th edition of the musical programme is taking place in London, England in August this year. The 10th edition was held in the USA.
Meanwhile, former athletics coach Madhu Shumsher Rana, and former member of the Nepal Volleyball Association Jyoti KC jointly handed awards to the winners amid a function.
